Hype, excitement, "brace yourselves", we've had it all. Phrases iterated time and again, South Indian Cinema, rather a great deal of it has always resided in the disappointing side of the curve. That particular curve, over time, has become so steep that a good telugu movie was referred to with a superficial conjecture. Baahubali stands out to make a new graph, the only difference being it does not stay true to its ancestry.

Beginning of the movie, as I sat in the overpriced INOX seats with some overpriced Nachos and Coffee, I expected the hype to fail and some cheesefest for display so I can go home and whine about how much of torment I have been through. But what I rather caught the eye of, was absolutely fantastic. As I sat myself through with keen eyes, there was some brilliant music playing in the background sending a shiver through my nerves at every engaging moment. Every character who came to display brought more immersion with him than the prior. My favourite of them all has been, Kattappa, Kattappa was outstanding. And the visuals (insert puking rainbows meme here) were stunning.

Now, now, the movie isn't all sunshine and rainbows. There are some unnecessary scenes as well, What I didn't like about Baahubali is that it still holds some of the telugu cinema clichés, the unnecessary dance songs, the romance arc. But wait, that's about it. That is what i had to complain about.

As the interval set a grand stage for the second half, I was still getting over the marvelous pre interval scene. And what followed the interval -the warfare, the story, the powerful screenplay, the effort put into visuals, the grand stage, performance by the cast, was pure cinematic excellence. And when the movie ended, I could not argue but rule out that Baahubali is amazing. Making a movie like Baahubali requires a great deal of effort and S S Rajamouli has put every bit into it. If not for the stifling unnecessary scenes, Baahubali is fantastic and one amongst the best Telugu movies.

Highly Recommended. Make an effort to watch it on the big screen.

Shamitabh New Movie

A mute, aspiring actor joins forces with a man who has a powerful voice. Together they take the film industry by storm, but will their egos get in the way?

Director: R. Balki
Writer: R. Balki
Stars: Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush, Akshara

Storyline

The film revolves around a very unique plot, where it shows two different individuals having different talents and when they become ONE, the mixture measures up to be a very big hit in the industry. But in the meantime, EGO comes in the way and prepares to shatter the bond into pieces. Dhanush is a mute aspiring actor from a small village but with great acting talents. Amitabh has a very impactful voice. Both, on their own, can not achieve any greatness in the film industry. But with a help of a third party (Aksara Hassan), when they come together, the talents combined, make a complete new Artist. Dhanush becomes the actor onscreen and Amitabh becomes his Voice. But after reaching the peak of success, Both the leads start to become miserable to the question of having more importance in the unique cocktail. An unstoppable fight of ego comes in action And the clash drifts them apart, destroying every greatness they achieved and every possible milestones they could build together.

User Reviews:

The film is another salute to the phenomenon by director R. Balki who previously presented Amitabh in two unconventional roles superbly in CHEENI KUM and PAA. Though in SHAMITABH, he once again brings in a fresh concept that in fact is not an easy one to shoot with all the voice and expressions matching to be done perfectly. Still the basic theme of the storyline is much thinner than his last two projects, which in turn makes it look like an overstretched, uneven film having few highs and lows together till its sudden and sad climax.

It begins with a great promise from a star studded premier of a film called LIFEBUOY attended by celebrities giving supportive TV bites and then introduces Dhanush the new star of the industry more famous for his heavy & impressive voice along with the acting. During his speech on the stage we are taken back to his flashback introducing another exceptional child artist who is a treat to watch (in a mute appearance) in those 10 opening minutes accompanied by an apt, catchy song with the lyrics "Salaam-E-Fillam" talking about the love for cinema in the general public. The intercuts of more flashbacks further introduce us to a grown-up Dhanush (as a bus conductor in a small city), who cannot speak but is confident enough to be a Hindi film hero rushing to Mumbai.

After this fine start the first unconvincing phase of SHAMITABH comes as Akshara meats Dhanush (who is just an Assistant Director) and she at once decides to help him out by even sending the struggling actor to foreign land for a costly operation of planting a voice box into his throat. A device, that enables him to lip-sync someone else's voice with a kind of micro recorder/transmitter working between two persons within a range of a few 100 meters. Now though the proceedings try hard to explain the procedure clearly, still the explanation remains a confusing one and the viewer has to accept that OK, let's assume that its possible!

Anyway the brilliance returns on the screen when the enigmatic Amitabh Bachchan is introduced as a drunken, beggar like defeated personality living in a graveyard and from here on we have the few worth watching sequences of the film written and enacted impressively. Both Akshara and Dhanush choose Amitabh to be the voice behind Dhanush's face and the fun begins as SH from Danish (Dhanush's name in film) and AMITABH together becomes SHAMITABH. Their first movie together becomes a hit and then the ego clashes begin claiming who he is the bigger star among the SH and AMITABH from the SHAMITABH.

The story progression featuring a hit film-star (who cannot speak) living a celebrated life, fooling the entire industry, successfully hiding the man behind his famous voice in the closet, turns out to be unconvincing repeatedly. And so does the character of Dhanush, who doesn't seem to be caring about anybody around like an arrogant celebrity proud of his instant success. As a result the ride becomes even more bumpy post intermission with uninteresting sequences coming at regular intervals like the use of bathroom pots in the immensely likable "Pidlee" song, Amitabh giving voice to a rival producer's B-grade film without any issues raised, his unnecessary dialogue with Robert De Niro poster leading to jail abroad, a lot of brand endorsement made in its various sequences and then the investigating reporter track left in the middle.

Yes, no doubt the director comes with many realistic characters with a visible effort of delivering a fine product based on a thin but fresh plot line particularly in the film's first half. Yet overall its only the superfine performances that actually carry the film forward much ahead than any other department of music, cinematography, background score or art direction. Promoted as the maestro Ilayaraja's 1000th film as a composer, the soundtrack has both good and average songs together with Swanand Kirkire's theme related lyrics.

In the performances, as I already mentioned it's a film once again proving the Shehenshah status of Amitabh Bachchan in the industry, who gives another worth watching and worth cheering performance as the deserted man with a golden voice. And I must say that I haven't seen anyone doing a better drunkard act in Hindi films ever with so much ease, elegance and conviction winning hearts right away. Also another appreciable feature of Amitabh's act remains that he never tries to outshine the co-actors giving them much space to perform too. And that's what proves the greatness of this 'Actor of the Millennium' evidently. Dhanush, the 'on-screen' hero of SHAMITABH confidently manages to stand in front of the magnetic persona of the Big B throughout and wins your heart in the early part of the movie before becoming the Superstar. Plus he also leaves a highly emotional impact on the viewer after the sudden, unexpected tragedy striking in the climax. Akshara Haasan makes a stunning as well as sincere debut amongst two towering personalities and so does the actor playing the landlord of Amitabh in the Graveyard hut.

Though the film revolves around a few characters only, here we also have some smartly inserted cameos by the industry figures too such as Mahesh Bhatt, Karan Johar, Raj Kumar Hirani, Rohit Shetty, Ekta Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Boney Kapoor and many more along with Rekha giving an award to Dhanush on the stage smilingly calling him SHAMITABH.

On the whole, SHAMITABH certainly cannot be rated as a close to perfection project as Balki's CHEENI KUM or PAA but it does have its appreciable highs along with the avoidable lows (offering a novel, inventive plot), making it a one-time watch for sure, especially for its enjoyable performances led by Amitabh Bachchan and his cult baritone voice.

User Reviews:

It's a must watch movie who usually like Hollywood revenge kinda movie Badlapur Offers a cinematic excellence with a rider that there's violence and gore. Badlapur is a complete performance driven film. This Film deals a dark humor revenge .....Badlapur is a film that will find patrons amidst the multiplex crowd. And yes, it is a film that will continue to live-on in the minds of cinema lovers for a long time to come.

Acting = 7.5/10 (Varun Dhawan's best acted Movie yet to find growing edges and nawaj's act as usual at it's best you will enjoy his act more then anything in this film)

Directing = 9.5/10 (Director Sriram Raghavan's crime thriller is about vengeance and forgiveness all right, but one thing that the film isn't is conventional. Badlapur Movie with many shades significantly enhancing the effect of its pivotal dramatic conflict. In conclusion, Badlapur might not be in the Ek Hasina Thi and Johnny Gaddar league, but it is a happy sign that Sriram Raghavan has left Agent Vinod behind.

Story = 8.1/10 (Badlapur is a Fantastic movie that suffuses on screen - a deftly written story, spectacular performances and an intelligently layered screenplay. What works best here is the film's unpredictability. From the minute it begins, you're latched to your seat with your heart throbbing in your mouth and your throat frequently choking up. For the sheer impact the movie conjures up, writer- director Sriram Raghavan deserves a bow)

Climax = 7.9/10 (While the first half keeps you firmly in its grip, the second half starts meandering a little till it captures you back with an absolutely unforeseeable climax. What you mainly take away from this movie is its core; a story (written by Sriram Raghavan) that tells us that most often the situation is the villain. And, perhaps, each of us is capable of turning a criminal when faced with an extreme situation.)

Why to Watch : If you are fan of Hollywood style of Movie, This Love Revange is far better then any other Indian Movie even good from Amir Starer "Gajini" or John Starer "Force". and obviously if u are fan of Nawaj's acting.

Why to not : Unmature act of Varun Dhawan who is trying his best.

What to Do : Go Watch it in Theater you will enjoy it for sure.

Tanu and Manu's marriage collapses. What happens when Manu meets Tanu's lookalike Kusum - and when Tanu returns?

User Reviews:

Movie starts off with hilarious dialogs. Till the intermission, you just can't stop laughing, all thanks to Kangana's superb acting and Deepak's unbelievable comic timing.

It's not like any other movie sequels where they change the personality and behaviour of the character just to create more fun.

Music of the film is outstanding. You just can't stop repeating the song in your mind once you listen to it. #bano-tera-swagger

On post-movie thoughts, logic for climax seems to be off the track. But awesome performances by all the actors especially Kangana and Deepak makes you forget any illogical things in the movie. Yet again Kangana will surely be getting her National Award again.

If this movie can't win the best film award then surely awards are paid rather than earned by the Khans.

Just stop reading any more reviews and go to theaters to watch and enjoy or later regret for not watching the best movie of 2015.

User Reviews:

'NH10' is brutal, frightening & yet powerful. Director Navdeep Singh gives a film, that's often scary & grotesque, but beneath all that, lies a story of courage & fighting back. It may not appeal to all due to its dark theme, but for those who relish on well-done violent thrillers, are sure to have a ball!

'NH10' Synopsis: A young couple's road trip goes awry after an encounter with a group of violent criminals. Chaos & Brutality follows...

'NH10' isn't for the faint-hearted. The sheer brutality depicted on-screen is off-putting & very disturbing. Also, this is a dark film, with absolutely nothing, but darkness all over it. But, the violence & the theme is so justified here, that it works as its trump card. 'NH10' works because the approach to this frightening tale, is given the correct treatment & execution.

Sudip Sharma's Screenplay is arresting. You're hooked onto the screen almost throughout, thanks to its tight writing. However, the first 30-minutes, when the story builds up, are dull. Those moments are the only shortcomings of this otherwise well-made film. But, the second-hour & the finale, in particular, are excellent.

Navdeep Singh's Direction is realistic & effective. He's handled the film really well. Cinematography is stark. Editing is perfect, as the film wraps up within a 110-minutes. Action-Sequences are gruesome, but well-executed. Background Score is first-class.

Performance-Wise: Anushka Sharma, who's also produced the film, delivers a terrific, dramatic performance as the horrified yet courageous protagonist. She displays helplessness with sincerity, but breathers fire when it comes to destroying the villains. This is undoubtedly her finest work to date. Neil Bhoopalam is fairly good in the limited role he appears in. Darshan Kumaar is effortlessly wicked, enacting the chief villain with command. Deepti Naval is absolutely fantastic in a scary cameo.

In a contemporary interpretation of war torn Calcutta during the 1940's, the film follows the first adventure of Byomkesh (Sushant Singh Rajput), fresh out of college, as he pits himself against an evil genius who is out to destroy the world. It's his wits against the most villainous arch criminal the world has seen, in a world of murder, international political intrigue and seduction.

User Reviews:

So finally, Byomkesh comes to Bollywood!! A well-scripted movie with an original story.Just the base is taken from the original work. The movie seems a bit slow at times but overall, you remain glued to your seats in the anticipation of what's coming next. Its not just another Bollywood thriller. The movie demands the attention of the viewer. In the end, you want for more! Sushant has played the role brilliantly. Other actors are commendable too. There are no irritating songs in the movie, and the dark background music adds to the mystery. Kudos to Dibakar Bannerjee for directing and YRF for producing this movie. And the story is not yet over.... there's more to come!

User Reviews:

Trailer and promo were reflecting that there is some mystery and thrill but after fifteen minutes of film you get the sense that there is nothing, you are victim of a boring stuff in the name of creativity. This is complex representation of a simple and many time seen concept. There is a dialogue in film that says that there is a type of film, which is only made for the sake of makers, without caring of audience, this line is appropriate for this film itself. Complete film is full of parallel cuts without any story line and emotions. It must have sounded fancy just at the idea level. Good actor Ranbir Kapoor gone waste. He had nothing to do. Sometimes I couldn't understand that what push them to do such type of film. Arjun Rampal is OK. Hindi does not suit a bit to Jacqueline Fernandez but she had make to speak difficult words even when it was not required for her character. It irritates more than her performance less acting.

Ugly

A terrible tale of corruption, indifference, and systemic violence starts when 10 year old daughter of an aspiring actor disappears.

Storyline:

The film portrays the kidnapping of a little girl of 10, who is out with her father for the day. Her parents are divorced and the ex-wife, literally cloistered by her new husband. On the other side a power-hungry super cop who is increasingly dependent on a cocktail of alcohol and anti-depressants, makes his way through this whole event.

User Reviews:

Its a very nice movie, beautifully directed & very different (in a good way) from other Bollywood movies.

From the beginning itself your mind is not allowed to rest. You start with so many doubts and as the movie progresses some of them gets cleared up, but guess what now you have so many more. So just a suggestion, start the movie with your bladder cleaned up otherwise later on you'll be totally lost.

Good humor + full suspense + great acting + great direction, have been waiting for this for so long.

Thanks Mr. Anurag Kashyap for this beauty. Ronit Roy is a great actor, no doubt about that, and he has done wonderful acting here once again. But others are equally good.

Gabbar is Back

A grief-stricken man takes the law into his own hands when he begins to kidnap and murder corrupt public servants.

Director: Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi
Writers: A.R. Murugadoss (story), Rajat Arora (additional screenplay),
Stars: Akshay Kumar, Shruti K. Haasan, Sunil Grover

User Reviews:

Gabbar is Back is a common man's fight against corruption. The movie justifies its name as Gabbar has been the biggest villain in Indian Cinema history. But this time Akshay Kumar adopt this name to fear the corrupts. He starts his own mission to destroy them and his way of doing so is brutal.

Movie is a bit slow in parts especially in first half but it doesn't boar you to core. We feel convinced with the proceedings and can actually feel the anger against the protagonist. This is what makes this movie different from other routine mass entertainers that audience get connected to the plot. Second half is solid with some really action packed sequences. Climax is ample and we feel convinced while coming out of the theater. There are minuses in the movie as every movie has but they don't irritate you. Slow pace and loud BGM are two drawbacks.

Akshay Kumar again plays the lead role quite brilliantly and after Baby , he has given another commendable job. His dialog delivery is just rocking. Action is always a plus in his movies. Shruti Haasan is cute and does her part good. The villain played by Suman is convincing. Sunil aka Gutthi is a bonus as Police officer. Kareena looks stunning in cameo while Chitrangadha is ravishing in item number.

Direction by Krish is good. Story and Dialogues are apt and support the movie a lot. Editing could've been better. Music is average with loud BGM. Cinematography is good. Action is OTT but looks good played by Akshay.

Overall, GIB is a convincing movie with a storyline that would connect audience and that's where it hits bulls' eye. It would be loved by one and all as it is a true entertainer. Go for it because there are very few no Nonsense masala movies made in Bollywood and GIB is one of them. Enjoy guys!
